#WokeUpLikeThis – Overnight Beauty Remedies 4 – Eyes and Lashes
Overnight beauty products, pt. 4: Eyes and Eyelashes
It is easy to get caught up in the course of the day. Stress, daily activity, work, and family all take a toll on our level of restfulness. When we get a little less beauty sleep than usual, our under eye area shows it most. However, rest assured, as this problem can be easily fixed! If you want to wake up looking more restful, keep reading for TRUE’s tips for overnight eye and eyelash treatments.
For Your Eyes:
If you want to get rid of that tired, dull look due to dark under-eye circles, try the following remedies.
We’ve all heard of the teabag eye treatment. However, it is not just a myth. Placing chamomile or green tea teabags underneath the eyes truly does serve a purpose. Tea contains caffeine, which acts to de-puff the area under the eyes. In addition, it is packed full of antioxidants, which are beneficial to the skin, as they prevent cells from oxidative damage. Antioxidants also treat dullness and increases collagen production in the skin. Before going to bed, apply a chamomile tea bag underneath the eyes and place a sleeping mask over the eyes to hold the tea bags in place.
Cucumbers, the most cliché home remedy to rid the eyes from eye bags, works well to soothe irritated skin. Cucumber is able to tighten the skin and provide anti-inflammatory protection, which prevents puffiness. Cucumber draws out impurities out of the skin and provides a brightening and lightening effect.
If neither chamomile nor cucumber provide satisfying effects, try this L’Oréal Revitalift Triple Power Eye Treatment. The cream tube has a metal applicator that helps to shrink and cool the under eye area. The caffeine infused into the formula removes dullness by constricting blood vessels.
In addition to overnight eye treatments, you can improve the health of your eyelashes through overnight eyelash treatments. Moisturizing the eyelashes is important but easy to disregard. Many of us forget that they also need our care.
For Your Lashes:
If your eyelashes are having a rough time recovering from the daily use of dehydrating mascara, give them some extra care by applying castor oil as an overnight treatment before going to bed. After removing your makeup, apply some castor oil onto a Q-tip or your finger, and gently massage into your eyelashes. Castor oil is made up of triglycerides, which are lipids that have excellent hydrating properties, as they are able to retain water in their structure; the oil is also more resistant to drying than other oils, so it effectively hydrates the eyelashes while you sleep. Regular application of castor oil to the eyelashes has been shown to increase their thickness and length after about 8 weeks.
If you do not want to use castor oil but want to stick to natural ways to promote the growth of your eyelashes, applying olive oil, petroleum jelly or Vaseline to clean, make-up free lashes will provide the same benefits.
