Good Vibes Shower Steamers – Turn Your Shower into a Spa
It is easy to get caught up in the fast pace of life. After staying up a little too late the night before or feeling overwhelmed about the busy day ahead of you, the best way to wake up is with some shower aromatherapy. There is simply not enough time in the morning to take a nice relaxing hot bath, so transform your morning ritual into a revitalizing and uplifting experience – with only four ingredients! We decided to try this recipe for DIY Shower Steamers that we adapted from Hello Glow.
Here is one TRUE member’s DIY experience:
I made seven shower tablets, which took me about 20 minutes. They were very simple to make – after grinding the botanicals, adding the baking soda, and adding some water, I combined the ingredients and the mixture took form instantly. Next, I pressed some of the mix into individual cupcake molds and popped them into the oven. The entire house quickly filled with an energizing and revitalizing aroma of citrus and the freshness of peppermint.
I let the tablets cool for a few minutes and then placed them into a mason jar. Not only are they a great perfuming source for any room when left out of the jar, but also a charming decoration. When showering, I placed the tablet near the drain. I was surprised at the fact that it didn’t dissolve right away like I initially predicted. However, as the tablet gradually dissolved, the essential oils began to fill the shower – I truly felt like I was undergoing a very relaxing aromatherapy treatment. The amazing scent remained on my skin after towel drying, and I could still smell it on me for about 3 hours afterwards. After the shower, I felt more energized and ready to start my day. Most importantly, I was in a better mood. Treating yourself in the morning can truly improve your state of mind for the rest of the day!
Ingredients You Will Need:
- baking soda [2 cups]
- an essential oil of your choice (in this recipe, I will feature rosemary and peppermint oils)
- fresh lemon zest [1 tbsp]
- dried rosemary flowers or leaves [2 tbsp]
- water [1/2 cup]
- bake-safe small silicone molds and an air tight container, such as a mason jar
To Make the Shower Tablets:
- Grind the dried rosemary flowers or leaves. If you have one, a mortar and pestle work well. You can also wrap the botanicals in a paper towel or zip-lock bag, and roll a coffee mug over them to grind them into small pieces. Next, prepare fresh lemon zest.
- Mix the rosemary and lemon zest with baking soda and place in a bowl.
- Add water – use enough to make the powder into solid clumps. The mixture cannot be liquid nor runny (but, if this happens, just add some more baking soda).
- Press the clumps into the silicone molds and bake for 15 minutes at a temperature of 355°.
When you take your tablets out of the oven, leave them out to dry for about five minutes. Then, drop three to four drops of each of the essential oils that you choose to use in the center of the tablet. You should allow the tablets to air dry for a few minutes after this step as well. Carefully take them out of the molds; if you decide that the tablets are still too soft or brittle, set them down for a few hours to dry. Then, transfer them into an air-tight jar and enjoy each one in your relaxing aromatherapy shower.
To use in the shower, place the tablet near the shower drain and let it invigorate the shower steam with its useful properties.
To use after the shower: air-dry or pat your skin dry and apply your favorite lotion. You can also add a drop of any essential oil to your lotion to smell fresh all day.
How to Choose Your Perfect Essential Oils:
Each essential oil is derived from a different botanical found in nature. Essential oils release volatile compounds, which are molecules that get absorbed into the body through the pores of your skin and through inhalation while you’re showering. The compounds contain various useful properties, such as, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-fungal, anti-septic, and stimulating, and many others. You can research any essential oil on Organic Facts.
