TRUE Models’ Favorite Wintertime Things to Do and Sights See in NYC
Yesterday was officially the first day of Winter! In honor of the frigid and frosty season, 8 TRUE Models disclose some of their favorite things to do, and sights to see, in NYC, during the snowy season!
- Alison: NYC is a magical place in the winter. I love to do all the classic New York City Christmas activities. Nothing beats getting a hot chocolate, bundling up, and checking out the tree at the Rockefeller Center, then, heading to window shop at all the big department stores, on 5th avenue. Topped off with seeing the Rockettes in the evening.
- Claire: I grew up in the country, but I have grown a fondness for Christmastime in Manhattan. The city comes alive. I love ALL of the pop-up shops and holiday parties, an excuse to wear ugly sweaters, store windows, and the HUGE Believe sign Macy’s puts up every year. It pulls my gaze up, and reminds me to look above the crowds and remember what the season is really about. Lame as it may sound, when the crowds be come a bit much… I love Central Park. The air is crisp and the leaves are falling, whether it’s snowed yet or not. You can find ice-skaters, and I love to walk around (safely and in daylight hours 😉 and find the waterfalls tucked into the park, or see the fountain in the Reservoir that refuses to freeze in the cold. Sometimes it only takes 843 acres to feel a million miles away.
- Dan M: During the winter I love going swing dancing, when I can. There are these underground clubs where you just go and partner up and dance the night away. Some people even dress up like it’s the ’50s. During the summer there’s so much going on and its oftentimes too hot to swing dance, but during the wintertime it’s the perfect activity.
- Valeriya: My favorite thing to do is go to the Christmas market in Union Square or Columbus Circle 🙂 Also, ice skating- with hot chocolate! I usually go to Trump rink.
- Christina M: It is a family tradition to visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral and walk around 5th Avenue to see the beautiful holiday windows. It’s fun to wander around the Bryant park shops. I like to purchase an annual Christmas ornament there. I also love spending time in my family’s bakery (Pelham Bakery in Westchester). The holiday treats are delicious. And, I enjoy spending time with family and friends that are visiting from out of town. We love going out for nice dinners and finding a cozy bar for cocktails
- Janel: I love ice skating at Bryant park and going to the holiday markets in Union Square, also a snowball fight in Central Park!
- Tim M: During the winter, I dig cozy settings. I always look forward to chilling next to the fireplace and watching Charlie Brown Christmas with the family, around this time of year. I also like going swing dancing at Frim Fram on the Westside on Thursdays nights – it’s like a time warp back into the 20s.”
- KIM L. : There’s no compassion to winter in NYC! I love the holiday lights in New York, so strolling along Fifth Avenue is a must every winter. Ever since I was really young, my mom would take me to see the Christmas Tree at the Rockefeller Center and the window displays at Saks Fifth Avenue, as well as Bergdorf Goodman, which is usually drenched with Swarvoski crystals! I really enjoy the little fantasy worlds the stores create. For shows, I love to go to the ballet at Lincoln center to see the Nutcracker. The costumes are incredibly beautiful! Additionally, it’s always really fun to go to Madison Square Garden for a Knicks game on Christmas!
