The Menu – Food
Your menu for any event you host is probably always the most expensive part of the party. If you’re inviting a lot of people you may want to ask each person to bring a dish, this way you’ll save money and you’ll know that each guest is guaranteed to have at least one food item they enjoy and can eat if they have any possible food allergies or dietary restrictions. If you don’t want to ask guests to bring a dish, then at least try to buy in bulk to save money. Stores like BJ’s or Costco are the perfect places to shop when you’re in need of food for a large crowd. Menu items such as burgers and hotdogs are the perfect go-to because they’re easy to make. Add in a few side dishes and your menu is good to go.
The Menu – Drinks
Just as important as the food at a BBQ are the drinks. Of course your drink menu is up to you, and can be as simple as serving water, soda, and maybe even iced tea or lemonade. However, if you want to take your drink menu one step further, add beer and mixed drinks. Again, beer is an item you can ask your guests to bring since not everyone drinks the same beer and it can get a little pricey. As for mixed drinks, there are tons of delicious fruity cocktails you can make beforehand in a large pitcher that your guests can help themselves to if they’d like.
If you’re going to be hosting a big summer BBQ in your backyard, you want to make sure your décor is festive, colorful, and summery. The décor is the first thing your guests will notice when they first walk in, so make sure it’s decorated well! Tons of stores offer cute outdoor décor and you can even find some cute but cheap party décor at your local dollar store. String some lights, light some citronella candles, and let the festivities begin!
If you have a pool in your backyard there are tons of games you can play with your guests such as pool volleyball. If you don’t have a pool don’t worry – there are still tons of games you can play with your guests to provide them with entertainment. Kan Jam, Cornhole, Spikeball, and Ladderball are classic summer BBQ games you can set up in your backyard. If you don’t have any of those, even simple card games are a blast to play at parties with a lot of guests.
Last but certainly not least, the music is an important part of any party, especially a summer BBQ. There are tons of different speakers that are great for the outdoors, such as Bluetooth ones and even waterproof ones. Just create a playlist on your phone or iPod, connect to the speaker, and you’re good to go! If you don’t think you’re the best at creating playlists, search for one already made on Pandora or Spotify that you and your guests will love. (You can never go wrong with Summer Hits of the 90’s!)
