Could skinny jeans send you to the hospital?
A 35-year-old woman was hospitalized for days after she became immobilized and was found on the ground during her walk home.
She had lost feeling in her legs, which resulted from a combination of tight skinny jeans and from squatting. The woman had spent a large part of her day in a squatting position as she helped a relative empty her closets and move.
According to Dr. Thomas Kimber, who treated the woman, her skinnies caused a tourniquet effect, which forced her muscles to expand inwards and compress her blood vessels and nerves. The swelling was so great that the jeans had to be cut off of the woman.
