New York Fashion Week’s Destination has Been Revealed
Ever since IMG announced that New York Fashion Week would no longer be held at the Lincoln Center, people have been speculating and anxiously waiting to hear what and where the new venue will be. Today, after months of anticipation, 2 venues for have been announced as the newest locations for the infamous New York Fashion Week.
The venues are the Skylight at Moynihan Station (inside the historic James A. Farley Post Office on W. 33rd Street) and Skylight Clarkson Square on Washington Street in SoHo. In a statement released by IMG to WWD, CCO Mark Shapiro stated:
“As IMG prepares to evolve New York Fashion Wee, we are focused on creating the best possible experience that extend beyond a physical location and moment in time. . . Part of this showcase involves staying close to inspirational hubs for fashion, art, and music, and we’ve found great new homes for that in Skylight at Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Square.”
The decision to have 2 venues, rather than one, has garnered split reviews. Some find it off-putting and fear it may take away from the appeal and experience of fashion week. However, it is becoming more and more common for designers to display their lines off-site. Therefore, others feel that 2 separate venues makes perfect sense and is in keeping with the cutting edge and competitive nature of the fashion industry.
