Lilly Pulitzer for Target: Chic or Cheap?
High-fashion apparel at an affordable price – sounds pretty perfect, right?
Target recently revealed its newest high-fashion partnership, with Lilly Pulitzer, on Twitter. The limited-edition collection is set to debut on April 19th 2015, exclusively at Target. The bright colors and bold prints highlight the resort-wear vibe the brand is known for.
According to Target, the limited line will feature “15 lively and modern prints inspired by archival artwork across 250 items, including apparel, shoes and accessories for women and girls, home goods and cosmetics.” With something for almost everyone and a price point of $2 – $150 this collaboration seems perfect for fashion-enthusiasts and Lilly Pulitzer fans alike.
However, the most recent partnership between Target and Lilly Pulitzer has created quite the controversy on social media. While many fashion-lovers are in support of the high-fashion made affordable concept, and collaborations of past and present designers with companies like Target, others feel that such partnerships cheapen high-end brands.
In light of the concerns expressed regarding the integrity and standard of the Lilly Pulitzer brand, and its collaboration with Target, both Target and Lilly Pulitzer representatives have weighed in. According to USA today, Target stated, “We worked hand-in-hand with the Lilly Pulitzer team to not only create an aesthetic, but also a value level that we’re proud of.” This sentiment was shared by the Lilly Pulitzer representative who stated, “There are consumers that have a different point of view and that’s ok and to be expected! Our brand is held close to the hearts of our consumer and we appreciate that. We have loved developing this capsule collection with Target.”
