Our February Model of the Month, Jessica Jones, gives us a sneak peak at her life as a TRUE model.
Name: Jessica Jones
Social Media: Instagram- jjones_712
TM: What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of modeling?
JJ: Outside of modeling, I enjoy traveling, cooking, film and television, and of course spending quality time with my boyfriend, my friends and family!
TM: What are you career goals?
JJ: It’s hard to say specifically, but I always want to love what I do. I am currently very happy!
TM: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
JJ: This is tough, as I am a confessed foodie! I don’t think I would ever get sick of delicious pizza.
TM: How did you get started in modeling?
JJ: I modeled when I was a teenager, but gave it up when I went to college. After graduating, I moved to NYC and got a job at MTV; I worked there for 6 years. After the show I was working on got canceled, I did freelance work and had some downtime. I met Dale from TRUE and thought I would book a client or two to earn some extra money on the side. Lucky for me, my modeling work turned into a full time career. I was lucky enough to book several major, steady clients right away.
TM: What tip would you give someone starting out in modeling?
JJ: Know your stuff! It is best to research agencies or managers before meeting with them. Familiarize yourself with the different types of modeling (runway, print, fit, commercial, etc) and think about your goals in the modeling world.
TM: Fit modeling requires you to maintain your measurements. How do you keep your body measurements consistent?
JJ: This really varies for everyone, but for me it’s definitely about moderation (with a little dose of good genetics added!) I never “diet” but do always try to cook healthy, organic meals so that when I eat out I can splurge a bit on some greasy goodness. I also find that I need to work out in moderation. I enjoy working up a sweat, but can’t work out too much, or I start to lose inches where I need to keep them!
TM: What is the most important thing to remember as a fit model? Print model?
JJ: Always be professional. At the end of the day, this is a job. Yes, it’s fun to wear beautiful clothes, meet famous fashion designers, and get your hair and makeup done but you need to remember your role. You are there to make the garments come to life and look good. Always be on time (that means at least 5 mins early!) and be well-groomed.
TM: Clients seem to love your fit for bridal & swim. Is there a particular type of garment that is your favorite to fit?
JJ: It’s hard to pick! I have so many wonderful clients. As a girly–girl, I must say fitting couture wedding gowns and dresses are pretty magical. I am lucky enough to work with both Oscar de la Renta Bridal and Vera Wang Bridal, and sometimes their garments truly take my breath away. I love seeing the intense labor that goes into making a wedding dress of that caliber. So many people are involved in perfecting the gowns, and I am fortunate to be a part of the creation.
TM: You mentioned working for MTV before modeling. What was your job for the show The City?
JJ: I was the Talent Producer for The City. It was a very demanding job, with incredibly long hours but was also amazing. I was sad to see it end, but I came away with some lifelong friendships and certainly some wonderful memories.
TM: We hear you have interviewed some exciting celebrities. Can you tell us about some of your favorite interviews?
JJ: Haha this is true! I work as an on-camera interviewer for AMC Theaters on the side. They do the majority of their interviews in LA, so I only do a couple of them a year in NYC. This past year, I feel like I interviewed so many wonderful people. A few highlights are Jon Hamm, Kristin Wiig, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, Megan Fox, Ed Burns, Eva Mendes, Jessica Chastain, and Ryan Gosling!
TM: Why did you sign with TRUE and what has your experience been?
JJ: I signed with TRUE because they were very involved from day one. They saw potential in me and prepared me. I could tell right away that they really know the ins and outs of this industry, and have a wonderful reputation. I am incredibly happy being a part of TRUE. They are like my extended family! In addition to all working very hard, we participate in fun group outings and dinners together, and all the models are great. I couldn’t ask for anything else!
