Behind the Scenes – Byron Lars Runway Show
Byron Lars is a trailblazer actively promoting body inclusivity in the fashion industry.
Byron Lars started designing his own label in 1991, and was named “Rookie of the Year” by Women’s Wear Daily, after only 2 season in the business. The designer has a powerful following and gained a great deal of attention when he created accessories as props for his Seventh on Sixth runway presentation, and unexpectedly landed contracts to design handbags, furs, and hats after his “props” attracted the attention of many. Twenty-five years later, Byron Lars is still pushing the limits and taking fashion to a new level.
For his 2017 Spring Runway show, Byron Lars presented his collection using both straight and plus models, including 7 models from TRUE Model Management: Asia, Frankie, Jenna, Sarina, Tori, Eliza, and Ola.
As the show commenced, a loudspeaker declared: “This is all about body-positive inclusion…this is not a plus conversation, this is a woman’s conversation.” In addition to having models of various sizes, his new collection is available in sizes 0 to 22, which is much more inclusive than the previous 0 to 12 range. Additionally, Byron Lars is pioneering the way high fashion, plus clothing is being designed and produced. Rather than grading up from their standard fit model, the brand is “re-engineering” everything on a size 18 model, for plus sizes.
The Byron Lars Runway Show was refreshing, vibrant, and full of positivity! Take a look at TRUE’s exclusive behind the scenes footage below!
