5 Tips for Creating a Fashion Week Inspired Party
The week fashionistas have been waiting for is finally here – New York Fashion Week (NYFW!)
New York Fashion Week has officially begun and will continue until September 15th. Each day is packed full of runway shows featuring the hottest designers and their newest collections, some of which can be bought right from the runway! As fabulous as Fashion Week is, many may not have a chance to attend a show. But, just because you don’t have a ticket to Fashion Week does not mean you can’t join in on the fun. This year, create your own Fashion Week inspired party. You can make it as edgy, glamorous, or playful as you’d like. What matters is that you make it your own! Keep reading for some tips on creating the perfect Fashion Week Festivity!
What’s the first thing that pops up in your head when you think of fashion week? The Runway! The Runway is a fashion show staple; you can be as creative as you’d like when creating your Runway. From purchasing an inexpensive runner to creatively arranging furniture, you can create the perfect catwalk for your company. A few places where a runway carpet can be bought are at Party City for about $20.00, or you can order one at Amazon for no more than $10.00. You can choose whatever colors you’d like – so don’t be afraid to pick something bold.
If you want to step your catwalk up a notch – include lights to make it more glamourous. Curtain lights are a great option for illuminating your path and creating a dramatic vibe. Whenever someone steps onto the runway, they’ll capture everyone’s attention and look and feel like a model. Curtain lights can be found on Amazon as well, for $21.00. Don’t forget to set up chairs along the runway to emphasize the path and create a more realistic feel.
Music goes hand-in-hand with Fashion Week and a great gathering. You can easily create your own playlist to stream, but if you are having trouble deciding what to play, try looking up fashion week playlists on Spotify. Another great option is to stream the fashion shows (or past fashion shows) on a TV or computer screen, on loop. This will help set the tone of the party and save you time looking for music to play.
You can’t have a party without food! Try to tie your food choices into your theme. If your party is airing on the side of elegance, choose finger foods and delicate appetizers and desserts to reflect that. Mini cucumber and dill tea sandwiches and bite sized cheese cakes would be great options. If you are going for something more playful, try incorporating a self-serve baked potato bar or taco bar with a number of fun, but delicious, ingredients.
A little décor can go a long way in setting the tone of your party. One inexpensive, but cute way to not over do it is by buying a couple of plain glass vases to decorate and set around your house. You can fill them with with glitter, colored water, chunky confetti, or whatever else goes with your theme. Add some fresh flowers for a fragrant finishing touch.
5. Dress Code
It is not just about the food and decorations, it’s about the Fashions, so set a dress code! A specific dress code can go along with your fashion theme. You can choose a classy grunge look, something more chic, or maybe ask everyone to wear the same color, silhouette, or designer. Regardless of what you choose, fashion is an expression of art and all that matters is that you rock it with confidence.
