Google Search Goes Fashion Forward for NYFW
Google is debuting a new way to interact with New York Fashion Week (NYFW)
New York Fashion Week officially commences on September 8th and concludes on the 15th. The annual, week-long event, is a time for designers to showcase their newest collections and to promote their brands. Thursday, Google announced that the search engine will be receiving a fashion-inspired makeover for the entire month of September. Anyone who searches for an affiliated NYFW designer on Google will see videos and images from the runway show, as well as announcements, links, and related sites and content. Former Maxim editor, Kate Lanphear, has been hired to help with the makeover and over 50 designers have already agreed to participate in Google’s newest “experiment.”
In addition to the algorithms Google uses, designers and brand will be able to contribute input, which will impact the search results. This new collaboration between Google and NYFW is meant to connect brands and designers to consumers and fans directly, and more efficiently. Last year, the “See Now, Buy Now” model caused quite the controversy when a number of designers agreed to release and sell their collection right from the runway. This year, people will now be able to buy the latest fashion designs from designers who are participating in the “See Now, Buy Now” model, directly through Google’s search results page, without ever having to attend a show.
