10 Ways to Bring Summer into Your Life RIGHT NOW
We simply cannot wait to break out our summer gear. Flipflops, sundresses, sunglasses, the swimming pool – how can you blame a gal for being excited?
Even though the weather has been toying with us, and preventing us from finally putting our winter wardrobes into hibernation, there are some things you can do to make it seem like the summer is here now, and like it is here to stay.
Prepare yourself mentally for the upcoming summer season by incorporating the following tips into your routine. With some simple and practical ideas, you can jump-start your favorite season, even if you are wearing a winter sweater right now!
1. “Spring cleaning” … or more like a closet revolution
Bury your winter clothes in the deepest and darkest corners of your closet, with the exception of some layering staples, such as light sweaters and a few long sleeve shirts. They have seen enough daylight for a century! Put those winter boots and puffy coats away until next year, and let’s hope not any sooner than October! It is time to hang up all of your summer dresses, rompers, and break out the sandals. It is time to show off sun-kissed legs!
2. Break out the white
YES! It is finally back – the white jean resurgence. Don’t wait around for Memorial Day, the white pants time is now. Pair white jeans with some summer stripes, a chambray shirt (or any denim top) or throw on a cozy sweater, if the sun is still a little shy over where you live. Let’s be honest – white jeans go with everything.
3. Add a new piece into your summer collection
Make it a tradition – save up all winter, and at the beginning of every summer, splurge on a new accessory that you know you’ll wear not only all summer, but throughout the other seasons as well. You know those luxury shades you’ve had your eyes on for a year? Get them. Or the sandals you’ve wanted since you first laid eyes on them – those would look so cute with that blue dress! You deserve them AND you will most likely not take them off all summer!
4. Find books you’re excited about
Summers are the best times to complete the reading you’ve wanted to tackle all year. Find some great classics that can get you into the breezy, light mood of the summer, or get your hands on a best-selling series that’ll revive your mind.
5. Prepare your home for the summer
Crack open the windows of your home and apartment to let in the cool breeze. Take off the heavy window drapes and replace them with light curtains. Let the sunshine and the wind into your living space. Ahhh.
In addition, you can add some flowers (real or fake) to brighten up any room.
6. Prepare the outdoors
Yes, we know. Sweeping outside doesn’t make much sense, but it does make your outdoor space looking neat while you’re there. So sweep and clean up the junk you’ve meant to get rid of for years and replace it with practical outdoor furniture. Decorate the space with new planters, flowers and vegetables. You can make your backyard your own farmer’s market! It will become your outdoor sanctuary.
7. Speaking of farmer’s markets…
Go to them! The summer is all about being fresh – eating clean, staying healthy, and feeling more in-tune with the earth. Kick off your summer by visiting your local Farmer’s Market. Pick up some fresh, pesticide and chemical-free greens, like kale and cucumbers, for morning smoothies or for original homemade face masks!
8. Hang up a hammock
Nothing says “summer” like a hammock does. Installing one in your backyard will make you feel like you’re at a resort – create your own summer nirvana and lounge around in your backyard, feeling like you’re at a luxurious Mexican beach.
9. Put away your hair dryer
You no longer need it! The sun and the soft breeze will dry your hair for you. Ditch the heat and start rocking your natural, messy locks. The beachy wind-tasseled hair look is in right now, so invest in some volumizing dry shampoo and some smoothing hair custard and you’re good to go!
10. Go light on the makeup
Instead of going full-face, full-coverage foundation, use concealer to cover up blemishes and dark spots and BB cream for a smooth and light finish. Go for a nude-bronzy eye and spice things up with some colorful cat eye (for example, using purple liquid liner). Also, don’t be afraid to highlight – shimmer up those cheekbones for a bright and glow-y summery look.
